Kauai Plantation Railway Experience

Enjoy the unparalleled beauty and natural splendor of Kauai and the unique thrill of riding an old-fashioned locomotive.

About Your Trip

Get revved up for the Kauai Plantation Railway experience that takes you on an adventure tour to recreate the fun-loving days of diesel-powered locomotives. Check in with the stationmaster at an authentic Hawaiian train depot before rolling out on a conductor-narrated tour of the lush Kilohana Plantation. Enjoy the 2.5-mile (4-kilometer) rail line that gently spirits you along groves of fresh mango, banana, papaya and pineapple. Learn about Kauai’s fascinating history, agriculture and its alluring legends – all connected to the territory you are exploring.

Stop off and enjoy interacting with a variety of animals at the animal feed stop; spend time feeding the wild pigs, goats and sheep. Descend into Kahuna Nui Valley for a tropical rain forest tour that includes learning about the local exotic tropical flowers and plants. Savor a delicious deli-style lunch before strolling through the fruit tree orchards to pick and taste in-season fruit right off the trees.

In your leisure time, take advantage of the many hotel amenities, including the giant infinity-designed pool, or spend quality time exploring the surrounding beaches.

What we love:
• The Kauai Plantation Railway is like stepping back into time – with the benefit of riding a diesel-powered locomotive through beautiful terrain.
• The St. Regis Princeville Hotel offers a gorgeous 5,000 square foot infinity-designed swimming pool that overlooks Hanalei Bay.
• Several awe-inspiring Kauai locales were used for scenes in the popular movie “Jurassic Park.”

Destination

Nicknamed the “Garden Island” for its lush tropical beauty, Kauai is a destination that doesn’t disappoint. The forces of nature have had ample time to transform the oldest of the Hawaiian Islands into a sanctuary filled with natural wonders.

Kauai’s present-day landscape is marked by majestic canyons, towering cliffs, breathtaking waterfalls and more sandy beaches per coastline than any other island in the archipelago. Those beaches — by far the island’s biggest draw — offer great snorkeling, surfing, swimming and sunning, and its myriad navigable rivers make kayaking another popular activity. Smaller, less populated, more rural and more laid-back than Oahu, Maui and the Big Island, the captivating island of Kauai is easily a favorite for many visitors to Hawaii.
